Position Overview
The Optometric Technician plays a vital role in supporting optometrists, delivering high-quality patient care, and ensuring efficient daily clinic operations. This position combines hands-on clinical responsibilities with administrative and operational support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced medical environment.

Compensation and Employment Details:

  • W2 position
  • Hourly pay range of $18–$20, based on experience
  • Eligibility for quarterly performance bonuses

Schedule:

  • Monday and Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Wednesday and Thursday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Greet patients and provide a welcoming, professional experience
  • Perform preliminary testing including visual acuity, autorefraction, tonometry, retinal imaging, and other diagnostic screenings
  • Assist optometrists during eye exams and procedures
  • Prepare, update, and maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR)
  • Educate patients on eye health, eyewear options, and contact lens handling and care
  • Dispense and check in glasses and contact lens orders
  • Troubleshoot basic eyewear or contact lens concerns

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Verify vision and medical insurance benefits and submit claims accurately
  • Manage patient correspondence, including prior authorizations, prescriptions, and medical reports
  • Schedule patients efficiently to optimize provider productivity
  • Maintain recall and patient retention reports
  • Track daily sales and performance metrics
  • Prepare nightly deposits and ensure financial accuracy
  • Support general administrative and front-office operations

Clinical Environment & Equipment Maintenance

  • Open and close exam lanes according to practice protocols
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms and diagnostic equipment
  • Ensure exam lanes and contact lens areas are fully stocked
  • Order contact lenses and assist with inventory management
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and basic troubleshooting

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in optometry, ophthalmology, or medical assisting preferred but not required
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable using technology, EHR systems, and diagnostic equipment
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the practice
