Position Overview:
The Head of Human Resources will serve as a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all HR functions for Summit Drilling’s multi-state operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, this senior manager/director-level role will drive the development and execution of HR strategies that align with the company’s business objectives, foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and support our growing workforce. The ideal candidate will have extensive HR leadership experience, preferably in the construction, environmental services, or related industries, with a proven ability to manage HR operations across multiple locations.
Head of Human Resources Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic HR Leadership: Develop and implement HR strategies & policies that support Summit Drilling’s growth, operational goals, and commitment to employee engagement.
- Talent Acquisition & Retention: Oversee recruitment processes to attract top talent, ensuring a robust pipeline of skilled professionals for field and office roles. Develop retention strategies to maintain a high-performing workforce.
- Employee Relations & Culture: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-focused workplace culture. Address employee relations issues promptly and effectively, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws. Administer Summit’s progressive discipline process.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with federal, state (NJ, PA, & SC), and local labor laws, including OSHA regulations and industry-specific requirements. Oversee workers’ compensation, drug testing, as well as risk mitigation programs like anti-harassment training.
- Performance Management & Development: Design and implement a performance management system, including goal-setting, evaluations, and career development programs. Identify training needs to enhance employee skills, particularly for field-based roles.
- Compensation & Benefits: Develop and manage competitive compensation structures and benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and incentives, to attract and retain talent while aligning with budgetary goals.
- HR Operations & Systems: Oversee HR operations and employee recordkeeping. Leverage technology to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Multi-State HR Management: Manage HR policies and practices across NJ, PA, and SC, ensuring consistency while addressing state-specific regulations and workforce needs.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Partner with senior leadership to align HR initiatives with business objectives. Serve as a trusted advisor on organizational design, change management, and workforce planning.
Head of Human Resources Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in construction, environmental services, or a related industry.
- Proven experience managing HR functions for a multi-state organization with a mix of field and office employees.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws (NJ, PA, & SC) and OSHA regulations.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with HRIS systems, payroll administration, and talent management software.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and operational execution.
- Ability to travel (approximately 20%) to SC (Greater Charlotte area) as needed.
- Commitment to fostering a safety-first culture and promoting inclusion.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the environmental, drilling, or construction industries.
- Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and HR analytics to support business outcomes.
- Change management experience in a growing or transitioning organization.
