Accounting Manager Job Summary
Summit Drilling is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee our accounting operations, including financial reporting, job costing, accounts payable (AP), and accounts receivable (AR). This role ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions and supports effective collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders.
The Accounting Manager will supervise a team of three: the AR Manager, AP Manager, and Billing Specialist. This position is critical to the company’s financial health, supporting functions such as job costing, WIP reporting, and cash flow management.
Accounting Manager Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
Prepare preliminary monthly financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L) and supporting schedules for CFO review.
Ensure compliance with GAAP for all financial transactions and month-end close activities.
Record and reconcile debt activity (borrowings, repayments, accrued interest).
Assist the CFO in monthly financial and KPI reporting.
Forecast revenue and profitability for current and future months; update open orders file accordingly.
Review WIP calculations and journal entries to ensure proper revenue recognition.
Approve large recurring journal entries (e.g., credit cards, fuel, payroll).
Reconcile prepaids, due to/from accounts, accrued expenses, and fixed asset activities.
Manage the Fixed Asset Ledger, including depreciation and disposals.
Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
Support the annual financial audit.
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable
Supervise AR, AP, and Billing teams; assign and oversee tasks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Review AR aging reports and support timely collections.
Reconcile general ledger accounts related to AR and AP.
Process scheduled and ad hoc AP payments, including utilities and leases.
Approve non-AP job expenses for proper coding and posting.
Cash Management & Treasury
Monitor daily cash balances.
Assist CFO with short-term cash flow forecasts.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
Enforce internal controls and compliance procedures.
Contribute to centralized payment application efforts and other process improvements.
Sales/Use Tax & Compliance
Review or file monthly and quarterly sales/use tax returns.
Ensure accurate tax payments and maintain compliance documentation.
Budgeting Support
Assist in analyzing and preparing annual budgets by department and division.
Other Duties
Perform special projects and additional duties as assigned by the CFO.
Accounting Manager Qualifications Required:
5+ years of senior accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, accruals, and AR/AP workflows.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
Accounting Manager Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) or similar ERP systems.
Experience managing a small accounting team.
Background in month-end close processes and financial audit support.
