Senior Accountant Position Summary
The Senior Accountant will oversee essential accounting functions, including cash reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of real estate accounting, Opportunity Zone (OZ) funds, and industry-specific financial practices. The ideal candidate will have intermediate Excel skills, strong written and oral communication abilities, and keen attention to detail.
Senior Accountant Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual cash and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with GAAP and company policies. Includes annual PMI Surplus Cash calculations for internal and external shareholders.
Ensure the proper recording of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, developments, and dispositions.
Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure proper classification of real estate assets, liabilities, and revenue.
Assist with external audits, compliance reporting, and tax returns.
Multi-entity and Intercompany accounting to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Payroll Accounting
Entering corporate employee hours into the Xenium (3rd Party) online portal. Bi-weekly payroll.
Perform multi-entity intercompany billings to all respective PacifiCap departments and affiliates. Once a month billbacks.
Ensure and confirm accuracy of employee allocations
Perform Out of Cycle payroll accounting that may include multi-entity intercompany billings.
Perform Balance Sheet reconciliations and P&L trend analysis for payroll accounting.
Opportunity Zone (OZ) Fund Compliance
Assist in the preparation of financial statements, investor reports, and tax filings, particularly related to Opportunity Zone (OZ) funds and other real estate investments.
Support the accounting and reporting requirements for Opportunity Zone (OZ) funds, ensuring compliance with IRS regulations and investor reporting.
Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely OZ fund documentation and compliance.
Monitor financial performance of OZ funds and assist in preparing required compliance reports.
Cash & Balance Sheet Management
Manage cash flow processes to support project funding and operational needs.
Oversee bank reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are resolved promptly.
Maintain balance sheet integrity, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliations.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
Identify and implement efficiencies in financial reporting and accounting processes to improve accuracy and reduce reporting timelines.
Collaborate with finance, development, and asset management teams to support strategic financial planning.
Senior Accountant Qualifications & Skills
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development (multifamily & retail).
Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and real estate-specific financial reporting.
Strong analytical skills need for analyzing and reconciling accounts.
Expertise in cash and balance sheet reconciliations.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) for effective interaction with internal teams, external stakeholders, and investors.
Ability to multi-task and work independently while meeting deadlines. Must be able to adapt and prioritize tasks.
Preferred:
CPA or progress toward CPA certification.
Experience with real estate accounting software (e.g., RealPage, Sage, Yardi, MRI, or similar platforms).
Prior experience working with real estate development firm and/or property management
Experience with Opportunity Zone (OZ) funds, including compliance and financial reporting.
